Announcing Powerhouse Education’s summer schedule for Camp Bunny Head Yoga summer 2012.

Come one come all! Ages 5 – 12

July 16- 20 Boys On Fire!! Boys only week (new!!)
July 23-27 Camp Bunny Head For Boys And Girls
Aug 6-10 Bunny Head Yoga Girl Power – Girls only week

$275 9:00- 3:30 (Offering early bird and late bird upon request for an additional fee.)

At Camp Bunny Head we cultivate a reverence for the natural world and an appreciation for the wonders of our bodies. We look deeper into urban culture to see that the natural world is with us at all times.

A typical day at Camp Bunny Head consists of a bit of free play to start the day. We may paint a fence with a fat roller or be more refined and paint on an easel with paper, blow some bubbles, or some other fun activity. We’ll have morning circle where we plan our day and discuss what it means to be a powerful kid in the world. After we’ve solved a few world problems with our kid power we’ll do some Bunny Head Yoga (for 30- 45 minutes). Fun yog, by the way, that is designed for specifically for kids. After our workout – we’re off for an urban adventure to instigate positive change or at least spread some cheer – then, back to base camp for a cool craft and some creative expression…or maybe just hangin’ in the “Chill Zone.”

And of course – there is Whippy Mouth!!!

Our past urban adventures include: practicing yoga at a local yoga studio, visiting local parks, a pilgrimage to Indian Rock, a road trip The Marine Mammal Center in Marin and Rodeo Beach next door – Adventure Playground, yoga by the Bay, a trip to the farmers market to talk with Rocky the farmer…and more.

Kindness is always the theme of the week – kindness to ourselves, to each other and to the planet. Each day we embark on a new adventure with these intentions in our minds and hearts. Through kindness we can create a ripple of change that can impact the world.

This year two new teachers join in for a great summer experience with your kids. Lance Akiyama will co-lead Boys On Fire! and the Boy/Girl Camp Bunny Head week – he is our resident engineer and imagination contractor. Freesia Huth will co-lead our Girl Power week. She is a movement/dance specialist with over 20 years experience working with kids. Both have many years experience working and playing with kids. Each is a leader that knows how to get out of the way thus, creating a spark of creativity that ignites personal enthusiasm and self-esteem. In short – both teachers are fantastic!

And – there is moi- the fearless leader that can only bow down to the greatness of these amazing kids. I take my past 8 years of the Bunny Head Yoga Program, two years of Girl Power Craft Days, 13 years of teaching yoga and 16 years of shamanic and earth stewardship studies…roll it into a big pile, plan the day, get out of the way so that the kids may lead.

We surely hope your Bunny Head will join us. For questions or registration – email Jnana at powerhed@gmail.com

April Showers Bring Girl Powers!

Tuesday, April 5th, 2011

When will we stop having so much fun??! How did I get so lucky – to meet and know all these amazing fire-ball gals…I just love it. The monthly craft keeps me on my toes, ever searching for groovy things to make, or adding things like a butter making dance to the snack time. Have you made butter lately? It is really fun and quite delicious. Spring dates are here. Camp Bunny Head is just around the corner too. (Boy/girl week – July 25-29…Girl Power August 8-12…register now to insure your Bunny Head’s place)

The pitch for Girl Power Craft Days:

Join us for an afternoon of creativity as we connect as powerful and spirited girls in the world. Each craft day we will explore how we can bring kindness and truth to ourselves and those we touch in the world. Creativity is one of the greatest gifts we have – to infuse the creative with ritual, helps us recognize our place in the world. Art helps us feel more grounded by self-expression. We add yoga to help us explore our inner terrain more deeply and infuse our bodies with serious girl power. The intention of the day is to have fun expressing our deepest-girl-selves.

Girl Power (early) Spring Dates

Monday, February 7th, 2011

Girl power is going strong – my girls ROCK, too! I just love learning from them, watching their seriousness when it comes to yoga and their massive artistry when it comes to crafts. These girls got it going on – I think the world would be a lot better place if we could just go upside-down, have a snack, then make a bit of art!!

The pitch:

Join us for an afternoon of creativity as we connect as powerful and spirited girls in the world. Each craft day we will explore how we can bring kindness and truth to ourselves and those we touch in the world. October 23- Girl Power Craft Days

Tuesday, October 5th, 2010

There were five of us September 25 for the first “Girl Power Craft Day” – we had a great time. We started with yoga, the girls can do handstands, I’ll tell ya’! and then we moved to my home studio where we sat in front of my mesa – which is like an altar. We discussed items on the mesa and sent prayers to people and animals – alive and dead – that we wanted the universal spirit to attend to. It was so touching to see the girls sending their love and prayers out to those they loved. After that, we moved to the craft room – we made gorgeous shakers from branches – layered with beads, yarn and bells…the outcomes were beautiful.

We’re doing it again – or rather, we will gather again and see what unfolds but – it will be nice to be in the creative with open hearts.

Here’s the class pitch:

Creativity is one of the greatest gifts we have – to infuse the creative with ritual, helps us recognize our place in the world. Art helps us feel more grounded by self-expression. Sometimes we’ll add yoga to help us explore our inner terrain more deeply. The intention is to have fun expressing our deepest-girl-selves.

Bunny Head Yoga Summer Camp for kids

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Powerhouse Education presents -Bunny Head Yoga Summer Camp
July 12 – 16 (for boys and girls)
Aug 16 – 20 (GIRL POWER week – girls only)

Bunny Head Yoga encourages children to experience being in their bodies, joyfully with excitement and control. At the Bunny Head Yoga Summer camp, we will start the day with free play, and then come together to do yoga before we set out on our daily adventure. This brand of yoga class is designed for children and we have a lot of fun doing the poses – often imitating the weather or turning into animals. Yoga has been known to help develop focus & concentration; it encourages self-confidence as well as enhancing physical coordination.

At the Bunny Head Yoga Camp we want to cultivate a reverence for the natural world; a few ways we’ll do this is by the study of “power animals,” each child will choose their own (power animal) and we will do a craft to ritualize their chosen critter. We will spend one day at the Albany Bulb communing with nature; we will go on an art hike to see the various art structures and we’ll make biodegradable art pieces to decorate the “magic tree.” (located at the Bulb)

July 12-16 Camp Bunny Head Yoga Camp for Boys and Girls:
Other field trips include: a field trip to a local yoga studio (Vara Healing Arts), Memorial Park, and one day will be by the Bay and will include going to Adventure Playground.

August 16-20 Bunny Head Yoga GIRL Power week:
In addition to the week above we will create a doll during the week that will be infused with girl power! This doll can be worn and it will go everywhere we go and represent the positivity of being a girl in the world today. We will make a pilgrimage to Indian Rock, which will include an ice cream stop on the way home ☺
9:00- 3:30 (extended hours possible, inquire for more info)
$240. (some scholarship available)
Located: 676 Spokane Ave. Albany
This program is designed to have a small enrollment so we may all connect with one another. Lead teacher; Jnana Gowan, Director of Powerhouse Education and the Bunny Head Yoga Program for Children. (teaching the BHY program since 2004, teaching yoga since 2000) Jnana’s assistant, Chloe Helleher is a preschool teacher with a theater background and years of being with children in the most fantastic ways.
