Jnana Gowan

Director & Educator: Jnana Gowan (pronounced gyana)

Jnana is the founder of Powerhouse Education and creator of At Your Desk Yoga, Powerhouse Education & Wellness Retreats and the Bunny Head Yoga Program (for children.) A teacher for 10 years, she specializes in yoga for women in transitional times from prenatal and postpartum to women in their perimenopausal years. As a Certified Yoga Instructor (since 2000,) with over 425 hours of teacher training, Jnana’s workshops and retreats are infused with her unique blend of enthusiasm, insight, knowledge of the body, and a good sense of humor. A writer her whole life, she’s recently had the good fortune to be included in two books regarding her most impassioned subject: yoga. She has one foot in the corporate world with her At Your Desk Yoga program and she wrote the chapter “Yoga at the Office” for the book Executive Stamina. Acting as a consultant for the business world she educates executives on how to use yoga while at the work place. Jnana also wrote the mindful movement series in the book Mindful Motherhood, by Dr. Cassi Vieten. Working on these two projects gave her the vehicle to share her knowledge of hatha yoga with those that want to integrate it into their everyday lives.

As for her true loves and inspiration, she is mindfully-married to her husband Jeff for 10 years and bows down to her guru-son, Riley Coyote, who has been her teacher for 9+ years.

A Body in Balance Health Tips

Tension check-in list:

  • Check posture regularly, be sure to sit up on “sits bones”
  • Be aware of your breath; breathe into your belly and the backside of your body. (Breathing in the upper chest rapidly will trigger fight or flight reflex.)
  • Blink eyes often (and slowly) to reduce tension in eyes, face and head.
  • Give yourself a little face massage to relieve potential or current headache.
